A Tribute to Roy Eldridge featuring John Faddis
Saturday, March 30, 2024 | 8:00 pm
Studebaker Theater, 410 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago
Like Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie, jazz trumpeter Roy Eldridge’s impact on the development of jazz cannot be overstated, but his contributions are underappreciated. Many of Eldridge’s best big band r
ecordings were made with Gene Krupa and His Orchestra, along with vocalist Anita O’Day. At this concert, you’ll hear Jeff Lindberg’s transcriptions played by the Chicago Jazz Orchestra with trumpeter John Faddis making his triumphant return to the Chicago jazz scene. Faddis, a devoted student of Eldridge’s music and playing style, is the perfect soloist for the occasion. He will be joined by Alyssa Allgood in the role of Anita O’Day.
